Liposuction is a procedure that is to remove excess fat cells from specific areas, like the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, etc. It is not a weight loss procedure that is intended for significantly overweight people. Rather than focusing on how many pounds or kilograms you can lose, think about the amount of fat removed and the resulting sculpted and toned appearance. It’s important to have realistic expectations about the procedure and its outcome.

Am I a good candidate for liposuction?

An important consideration when evaluating whether liposuction is right for you is ensuring the skin envelope will not sag or look wrinkly with fat removed. This will be determined in your consultation with Dr. An. 

There are two layers of fat you need to understand before determining if you are a good candidate for liposuction: subcutaneous fat and visceral fat. Subcutaneous fat can be stubborn to lose, and it lies between muscle and skin. Visceral fat, on the other hand, is the layer beneath the muscle layer around organs. Visceral fat cannot be removed, but the subcutaneous layer can. The subcutaneous layer’s integrity, as well as your skin’s elasticity will help determine if you are a good candidate.

What liposuction should I get?

There are several types of liposuction in Korea. Traditional liposuction uses a standard cannula, while premium liposuction utilizes a special cannula set invented by Dr. An. 5D liposculpture focuses on fat layers, leaving a superficial fat layer over the original muscle shape artistically. Although not offered at Lydian due to effectiveness and safety concerns, options like tumescent liposuction, laser-assisted liposuction, and cool sculpting are available in the market. Communicate with your surgeon thoroughly before choosing a procedure.

What do I need to prepare before the surgery? 

How long before the surgery should we do the preoperative health check-up?  

Prior to surgery, you will need comprehensive blood tests, an electrocardiogram, and a serum test. While you can get results quickly in Korea, it’s risky to wait until a few days before surgery.

We recommend getting these tests in your home country and sharing the results with us before scheduling. The tests should be performed within one month of the surgery to ensure current health status. We only accept examination results from the past month.

Is it possible to undergo full body liposuction in one session?

We understand you may want drastic improvements, but safety comes first. For full body liposuction, operating on several areas at once can be risky. It’s advisable to split the procedure into two surgeries, with 7-14 days between them, depending on recovery. For example, arms, back, and abdomen in the first surgery, and thighs and calves in the second.

This approach ensures better results and recovery by not removing too much fat at once. Patients unable to stay long can return within a year for the second surgery.

Our post-care procedures and dressings allow patients to return to daily life quickly after a regular liposuction procedure. It depends on the procedures, but most of our foreign patients go back to their country one week after the surgery.

What results should I expect after the procedure? 

During consultation Dr. An will discuss and help you visualize realistic results. Immediately after surgery, there may be swelling and loose skin that will go away during the healing process. It may take several weeks to months to see the full extent of the results of the procedure. The final result will be a lovely enhancement to create a slimmer more toned figure.

There are a few factors that an effect how long the results of liposuction last

The amount of fat removed: The more fat that is removed, the longer the results are likely to last.
The patient’s lifestyle: People who maintain a healthy diet and exercise regularly after liposuction are more likely to see long-lasting results.
The patient’s age: Younger people tend to have better skin elasticity, which can help the skin conform to the contours of the body after fat removal.

Is liposuction a permanent solution for fat removal?

After liposuction or fat grafting, the fat cells that are removed are gone permanently. However, it is possible for the remaining fat cells to increase in size if the patient gains weight. Preoperative medical check-up in your home country and send them to us

Travel to Korea

1-2 days before the surgery – Arrive in Korea, visit our clinic, and meet with Dr. An. Discuss your concerns, check your skin condition during an in-person consultation, finalize surgery details, and complete pre-surgery tests on the same day.
Surgery day – Arrive at the clinic and undergo the surgery, 1 night hospitalization might be needed depending on the situation
Day 1 – Dr.An will check on you in the morning and you may leave after that.
First week – You will need 2 to 4 follow-up visits for the post-care program. We recommend staying in Seoul for at least 7 days for the best results and recovery, or at least 14 days for full body liposuction or tummy tuck cases, as these surgeries require longer recovery times. Most of our overseas patients fly back home after one week, but you can leave after 5 days if Dr. An does not see any exceptional problems.

Return to Your Home Country

In Korea, the VAT tax rate is 10%. You can get a 7-8% tax refund with the document we provide. Feel free to contact us for any inquiries after returning to your country; we are always here for our customers.

Before the surgery takes place in Seoul, Dr. An will once again discuss the details of the procedure. This is particularly important for those who had online consultation and have not had a chance to meet Dr. An in person.
